SIAAP was established in December 2004 by a US Army officer and a Kalangala native, Major Frank Musisi together with a group of volunteers with a major goal of contributing to the reduction of incidences of HIV transmission and tackling the adverse effects of HIV/AIDS among the people of Ssese Islands, Lake Victoria, Uganda. This was to be achieved through community health education and sensitization, HIV counseling and testing (HCT), condom distribution, care support and support and treatment of PLWH so that people’s livelihood is improved.
Ssese Islands African Aids Project (SIAAP) is an HIV/AIDS Non-Government Organization (NGO) registered with NGO board (REG NO. INDR 54041066NB) with permit number (INDP 50081066NB) and with the NGO forum in Kalangala district.
In 2015, Siaap was recognized as private not for profit facility by the ministry of health in Uganda.
